کسی اداکار کا باکس آفس پر سلمان خان سے مقابلہ نہیں، شاہ رخ

بولی وڈ اسٹار شاہ رخ خان نے اعتراف کیا ہے کہ باکس آفس پر سلمان خان سے مقابلہ نہیں کرسکتا بلکہ انڈسٹری کا کوئی بھی اداکار سلمان سے مقابلہ کرنے کی ہمت نہیں رکھتا۔

بولی وڈ اسٹار شاہ رخ خان کواداکاری کے ساتھ ساتھ باکس آفس کا بھی کنگ کہا جاتا ہے اور یہی وجہ ہے کہ سلمان خان بھی متعدد بار کنگ خان سے باکس آفس پر مقابلے میں اپنی شکست تسلیم کرچکے ہیں لیکن اب پہلی بار شاہ رخ خان نے باکس آفس پر مقابلے میں شکست کو تسلیم کرلیا ہے۔

شاہ رخ خان کا اپنے انٹرویو میں کہنا تھا کہ دپیکا پڈوکون، کترینہ کیف اور پریانکا چوپڑا آج کچھ اداکاروں سے زیادہ معاوضہ وصول کرتی ہیں جس کی وہ اہل ہیں۔ شاہ رخ خان کا سلمان سے باکس آفس پر مقابلے کے سوال پرکہنا تھا کہ باکس آفس پر سلمان خان سے مقابلہ نہیں کرسکتا بلکہ انڈسٹری کا کوئی بھی اداکار سلمان سے مقابلہ کرنے کی ہمت نہیں رکھتا ہے۔

واضح رہے کہ شاہ رخ خان نے سلمان خان کی فلم ’’سلطان‘‘ سے باکس آفس پر مقابلے کے باعث اپنی فلم’’رئیس‘‘ کی تاریخ 6 جولائی سے بڑھا کر 25جنوری رکھی تھی۔

مائیکل جیکسن کی زندگی پر مبنی فلم کی کاسٹ سے پیرس جیکسن ناخوش

آنجہانی گلوکار اور موسیقارمائیکل جیکسن کا کردار جوزف فینین کے ادا کرنے پر پیرس جیکسن نے غم و غصہ کا اظہار کیا ہے، یہ اظہار انہوں نے فلم کے دنیا بھر میں جاری ہونے والے پہلے ٹریلر کو دیکھنے کے بعد کیا ۔

پیرس نے اپنے غصہ کا اظہار مداحوں کے ساتھ ٹوئٹر پر اپنے ٹوئٹ میں کیا۔فلم کی کہانی کا مرکزی خیال 2001میں نائن الیون کے دہشتگردی کے واقعات کے بعد پروازوں کے منسوخ ہونے کی وجہ سے مائیکل جیکسن کےسینئر ہولی وڈ اداکارہ الزبتھ ٹیلر اور مارلن برانڈو کے ساتھ مبینہ روڈ ٹرپ پر مبنی ہے۔

جب ان سو پوچھا گیا کہ انہوں نے فلم کے ٹریلر سے کیا سیکھا تو پیرس جیکسن نے ٹوئٹ میں لکھا کہ میں فلم کی کاسٹ سے ناخوش ہوں، یقین ہے کہ اور بہت سے لوگ بھی میرے ہم خیال ہونگے، اور اسے دیکھ کر میں تو قے کرنا چاہتی ہوں۔اس میں نہ صرف میرے والد بلکہ میری گاڈ مدر الزبتھ کی بھی توہین کی گئی ہے۔

پیرس نے مزید کہا کہ جوزف کو بطور کنگ آف پاپ کاسٹ کرنا قابل شرم ہے اور اس سے لیجنڈری آرٹسٹ کی شہرت کو نقصان پہنچانے کی کوشش کی گئی ہے۔پیرس جیکسن کے کزن تاج جیکسن نے بھی ایسے ہی تاثرات کا اظہار کیا ہے۔

عامر خان باکس آفس کے پہلوان بن گئے

فلم ’’دنگل ‘‘نے نئے ریکارڈ ز قائم کرتے ہوئے دنیا بھر میں 681کروڑ روپے سے زائد کا بزنس کرلیا۔

بالی ووڈ اداکار عامر خان کی فلم ’’دنگل ‘‘باکس آفس پر دنگل جیتتے ہوئے بھارت میں495 کروڑ روپے سے زائد کا بزنس کرکے بھارتی فلم انڈسٹری کی سب سے زیادہ کمائی کرنے والی فلم بن گئی ہے ۔

فلم دنگل دو ہفتے سے بھی کم وقت میں تین سو کروڑکلب میں شامل ہوگئی تھی ، دنیا بھر میں اس فلم نے ابتک 681کروڑ روپے سے بھی زائد کا بزنس کرلیا ہے۔

اس فلم کی کہانی بھارت کے معروف ریسلر مہاویر سنگھ پھوگٹ کے گرد گھومتی ہے جو اپنی دو بیٹیوں کو دنیا کے منجھے ہوئے پہلوانوں کے روپ میں دیکھنے کا خواہشمند ہے۔ فلم عامر خان اور ان کی بیوی کرن راؤ نے پروڈیوس کی ہے۔

ماہرہ اور شاہ رخ کی فلم’’رئیس‘‘کانیا پرومو جاری

پاکستان کی معروف اداکارہ ماہرہ خان اورشاہ رخ خان کی تھرل اور ایکشن سے بھرپور نئی بالی ووڈ فلم '’’رئیس ‘‘کا نیا پرومو جاری کردیاجس میں نواز الدین صدیقی نے اپنی شاندار اداکاری کے جوہر دکھائے ہیں۔

فلم میں ماہرہ خان پہلی بار بالی ووڈ کے کنگ خان کے ساتھ مرکزی کردار ادا کر رہی ہیں جبکہ نواز الدین صدیقی بھی مرکزی کردار میں شامل ہیں۔

راہل ڈھولاکیا کی ہدایتکاری میں بننے والی اس فلم کی کہانی عبد الطیف نامی ڈان کے زندگی پر بنائی گئی ہے جس کی کاسٹ میں شاہ رخ،ماہرہ اور نوازالدین صدیقی کے علاوہ محمد ذیشان ایوب،روپندر نگرا،آریا بابر،گووندنمدیو اور انیل منگے بھی شامل ہیں۔

واضح رہے یہ فلم رواں سال25جنوری کو سنیما گھروں کی زینت بنے گی

عامر خان کی فلموں نے 15 برس میں3200 کروڑ کمائے

بالی وڈ اداکار عامر خان فلم میں کامیابی کی ضمانت ہیں، بالی وڈ میں نت نئے ریکارڈ، اچھوتے پن، کامیابی، کمالات اور فلمی کمائی کے لیے ان کا نام ہی کافی ہے۔

ان کی ہر فلم نیا ریکارڈ بناتی ہے اوران کی ہر نئی فلم اپنا ہی گزشتہ ریکارڈ توڑ دیتی ہے، 15سال میں عامر خان کی فلموں نے 32سو کروڑ روپے کمائے۔

2008ءمیں عامر خان کی فلم ’گجنی‘ ہی تھی ،جس نے بھارت بھر میں 180 کروڑ روپے کماکر، سو کروڑ یا زائد کی کمائی کا ٹرینڈ شروع کیا اور بالی وڈ میں سوکروڑ کلب کی بنیاد ڈالی ،پھر 2009ء میں فلم ’تھری ایڈیٹ‘ نے دنیا بھر سے 405کروڑ کمائے ۔

سو کروڑ، دو سو کروڑ اور تین سو کروڑ کے آکڑے کو پہلی بار چھونے والے عامر خان ہی تھے، جس کے بعد 4 سو کروڑ کی طرف بھی انہی کے قدم گامزن تھے۔

2014ءمیں ریلیز ہونے والی فلم ’پی کے‘ نے بھارت سمیت دنیا بھر سے 792کروڑ کمائے۔

ان کی فلم ’لگان‘ 2001ء میں اکیڈمی ایوارڈ کے لیے نامزد ہوئی اور اس نے 8نیشنل فلم ایوارڈ جیتے۔

فلموں میں نمایاں اداکاری پر عامر خان کو 2003ءمیں پدما شری ایوارڈ اور 2002ءمیں پدما بھوشن ایوارڈ سے نوازا گیا ۔

سعید الزمان صدیقی کی سرکاری اعزاز کے ساتھ تدفین

گورنرسندھ جسٹس (ر)سعید الزماں صدیقی کو سرکاری اعزاز کے ساتھ گذری قبرستان میں سپرد خاک کردیا گیا۔ پاک نیوی کے دستے نے سلامی دی۔

قبل ازیں سعید الزماں صدیقی کی نماز جنازہ گورنرہاؤس میں ادا کی گئی۔ نماز جنازہ مفتی تقی عثمانی نے پڑھائی۔

نماز جنازہ میں سابق وزیراعلیٰ سندھ قائم علی شاہ، میئرکراچی وسیم اختر،وفاقی وزیر عبدالقادربلوچ، سینیٹر نہال ہاشمی، سلیم ضیاءعارف علوی ، ایم کیوایم پاکستان کے سربراہ فاروق ستار ودیگر سمیت اعلیٰ عسکری و سول حکام نے بھی شرکت کی۔

انہوںنے 11 نومبر 2016 کو حلف اٹھایا تھا اور 11جنوری 2017کو ان کا انتقال ہوا۔

وہ دو ماہ گورنر کے عہدے پر فائز رہے تاہم حلف اٹھانے کے بعد وہ بیشتر علیل رہے ۔اس دوران وہ اسپتال میں بھی کئی روز داخل رہے۔

سینیٹ کی نشاندہی پر سندھ کے نصاب میں تبدیلی کی گئی،رضا ربانی

چیئرمین سینیٹ میاں رضا ربانی نے ایوان کو خوشخبری دی کہ سینیٹ کی نشاندہی پر سندھ کے نصاب میں تبدیلی کرکے آمریت کی بجائے جمہوریت کے فوائد شامل کر دئیے گئے ہیں ۔

چیئرمین سینیٹ نے ایوان کو بتایا کہ ہماری جانب سے نصاب سے متعلق نوٹس لئے جانے پر ایکشن ہوا ہے۔سینیٹ نے نشاندہی کرائی تھی کہ سندھ کے نصاب میں جمہوریت کی نفی کی جا رہی ہے۔ نصاب میں آمریت کے فوائد لکھے تھے۔

انہوں نے بتایا کہ حامد میر نے اپنے پروگرام میں یہ مسئلہ نشر کیا تھا ۔ کل حامد میر کو وزیر اعلیٰ سندھ نے بتایا ہے کہ سندھ حکومت نے نصاب میں تبدیلی کر دی ہے ۔

رضا ربانی نے مزید بتایا کہ یہ جمہوری اقدار کی طرف ایک مثبت قدم ہے ۔ ایوان میں اراکین نے ڈیسک بجا کر اقدامات کو سراہا۔

طیبہ کیس: او ایس ڈی بنائےگئے جج کے خلاف مزیدانکوائری کا فیصلہ

جج کے گھر میں تشدد کا نشانہ بننے والی طیبہ کےکیس میں پیش رفت ہوئی ہے ، او ایس ڈی بنائےگئےایڈیشنل سیشن جج راجہ خرم کے خلاف ایک اورانکوائری کا فیصلہ کرلیا گیا۔انکوائری ہائی کورٹ کے جج کی سربراہی میں ہوگی ۔

رجسٹراراسلام آباد ہائی کورٹ بھی ایڈیشنل سیشن جج کےخلاف انکوائری کرچکےہیں ۔

سپریم کورٹ کے از خود نوٹس کے بعد انکوائری رپورٹ عدالت میں جمع کرائی گئی تھی ۔

اسلام آبادہائی کورٹ کےچیف جسٹس نےرجسٹرارہائی کورٹ کوانکوائری افسرمقررکیاتھا۔

ادھراسلام آباد میں ایڈیشنل سیشن جج کے گھر پر تشدد کا نشانہ بننے والی طیبہ نے سویٹ ہوم میں پڑھائی شروع کردی۔

اس نے یونیفارم پہن کر ڈرائنگ کی کلاس میں شرکت کی اور کاپی میں رنگ بھرے۔

وزیر داخلہ کے بیان کے بعد ایک اور شخص کو اٹھا لیا گیا، فرحت بابر

پیپلز پارٹی کے سینیٹر فرحت اللہ بابر نے کہا ہے کہ وزیر داخلہ کے لاپتہ افراد کے معاملے پر بیان کے 36 گھنٹے بعد ایک اورشخص کو اٹھا کرحکومت اور پارلیمنٹ کوواضح پیغام دیا گیا ہے ۔

گزشتہ ایک ہفتے میں لاپتہ ہونے والے افراد کے معاملے پر سینیٹ میں اظہار خیال کرتے ہوئے انہوں نے کہا کہ وزیر داخلہ نے کچھ روزپہلے سینیٹ کو یقین دہانی کرائی تھی کہ آئندہ لوگوں کو لاپتہ نہیں کیا جائے گا لیکن وزیر داخلہ کے بیان کے چھتیس گھنٹے بعد ایک اور شخص کو اٹھانے کے بعد چھوڑ دیا گیا ہے،وزیر داخلہ کے بیان کےبعد اس شخص کا اٹھایا جاناحکومت اور پارلیمنٹ کے لئے پیغام ہے۔

چیئرمین سینیٹ رضا ربانی نے کہا کہ کسی فرد، گروہ یا حکومتی ادارے کی جانب سے دھمکی پر پارلیمنٹ بہری ہے۔

سینیٹر فرحت اللہ بابر نے کہا کہ پورے ایوان پر مشتمل کمیٹی نے لاپتہ افراد کے حوالے سے بل کی منظوری کا معاملہ اٹھایا تھا جس میں حکومت سے 60روز میں قانون سازی کرنے کا کہا گیا تھا۔

فرحت اللہ بابر نے کہا کہ پہلے فاٹا، خیبر پختوانخوا، سندھ اور بلوچستان سے لوگوں کو اٹھایا جاتا تھا، اب یہ سلسلہ اسلام آباد میں بھی شروع کر دیا گیا ہے۔

وزیر قانون زاہد حامد نے ایوان کو بتایا کہ کسی پانچویں شخص کی گمشدگی کی شکایت پولیس کو موصول نہیں ہوئی، وزیر داخلہ نے پانچویں شخص کی گمشدگی کی خبروں کا نوٹس لیا ہے اور پولیس کو ہدایت کی ہے کہ خبر دینے والے رپورٹر سے رابطہ کر کے گمشدگی کے حوالے سے تفصیلات حاصل کی جائیں۔

چیئرمین سینیٹ نے وزیر مملکت برائے داخلہ کو4 لاپتہ افراد کے حوالے سے پیر کے روز تک پیشرفت سے متعلق آگاہ کرنے کی ہدایت کی۔

شرابی سیاست دانوں کو سزائے موت ہونی چاہیے، شاہی سید

وقار ستی...سینیٹ کی قائمہ کمیٹی برائے داخلہ کے اجلاس میں شراب کے معاملے پر بحث کی گئی۔

عوامی نیشنل پارٹی کے سینیٹر شاہی سید نے تجویز دی کہ شراب پینے والے سیاست دانوں کو سزائے موت دی جانی چاہیے، چرس درویشوں کا نشہ ہے۔

پیپلز پارٹی کے سینیٹر رحمان ملک نے کہا کہ سب سیاست دانوں کا ڈی این اے ٹیسٹ ہونا چاہیے۔

انہوں نے مطالبہ کیا کہ سیاست دانوں کو الیکشن لڑنے سے پہلے ڈیکلیئر کرنا چاہیے کہ کیا کبھی شراب، چرس اور افیون پی

پاکستان نے فاٹا میں دہشتگردوں کے ٹھکانوں کا الزام مسترد کر دیا

پاکستان نے قبائلی علاقہ جات میں دہشت گردوں کی محفوظ پناہ گاہوں کے الزامات سختی سے مسترد کردیے ہیں۔

ترجمان دفتر خارجہ نفیس زکریا کا کہنا ہے کہ پاکستان اپنی سرزمین کسی دوسرے ملک کے خلاف استعمال نہیں ہونے دے گا، پاکستان کو بھارتی اور افغان خفیہ ایجنسیوں کے گٹھ جوڑ اور سرگرمیوں پر شدید تحفظات ہیں۔

ترجمان دفتر خارجہ نے کہا کہ دہشت گردی کے خلاف جنگ میں پاکستان کے کردار اور قربانیوں کو پوری دنیا تسلیم کرتی ہے ، فاٹا میں پاک فوج کے آپریشن کے نتائج مثبت ہیں۔

ترجمان نے مزید کہا کہ پاکستان مخالفانہ بیان بازی کے سلسلے کا حصہ نہیں بنے گا اور دوسروں سے بھی ایسی ہی توقع رکھتا ہے۔

تفتیشی افسر کی رپورٹ پر انسداد دہشت گردی عدالت نے عزیزآباد اسلحہ کیس بند کرنے کی رپورٹ منظور کر لی ۔

کہاں سے آیا تھا یہ اسلحہ؟کون لایا تھا یہ اسلحہ؟ کس کا تھا یہ اسلحہ؟ سوال بہت لیکن جواب ایک بھی نہیں،5اکتوبر2016ءکو کراچی میں عزیزآباد سے تاریخ کی سب سے بڑی اسلحے کی کھیپ پکڑی گئی ۔

گھر کے ٹینک میں چھپائے گئے اسلحے سے متعلق کراچی پولیس افسران نے بڑے بڑے دعوے کئے ، لیکن دو ماہ بعد ہی ان دعوؤں کے غبارے سے ہوا نکل گئی، پولیس نے تفتیش سے ہاتھ کھڑے کر کے عدالت میں کیس بند کرنے کی رپورٹ جمع کرا دی۔

انسداد دہشت گردی کی عدالت نے عزیزآباد اسلحہ کیس بند کرنے کی رپورٹ منظور کر لی ، یوں 3مہینے8 دن بعد یہ ہائی پروفائل کیس بند ہوگیا ۔

ضیا اللہ آفریدی ایک بار پھر عمران خان پر برس پڑے

 

خیبر پختونخوا کے سابق وزیر ضیا اللہ آفریدی تحریک انصاف کے چیئرمین عمران خان پر برس پڑے ،کہا کہ عمران خان احتساب کی آڑ میں مجھ سمیت ذلیل ہونے والے تمام افسران سے معافی مانگیں۔

سابق صوبائی وزیر اور پاکستان تحریک انصاف سے نکالے گئے خیبرپختونخوا اسمبلی کےرکن ضیاء اللہ آفریدی نےکہا ہے کہ احتساب کمیشن ایک کرپٹ ادارہ ہے اور خراب گورننس کی ایک مثال ہے،سپریم کورٹ کے چیف جسٹس ازخودنوٹس لیکراس کی اعلیٰ سطح کی تحقیقات کروائیں اورعمران خان غلط احتساب کرنے پر مجھ سمیت صوبے کےعوام سےمعافی معانگیں۔

پشاورپریس کلب میں پریس کانفرنس سے خطاب میں ضیاء اللہ آفریدی نے انکشاف کیا کہ احتساب کمیشن کے ایڈیشنل ڈائریکٹر میجر احسن نے اسپیکر صوبائی اسمبلی کو خط لکھ کر کمیشن کے ممبران کی بدعنوانی سے آگاہ کیا ہے۔

ان کا کہناتھا کہ احتساب کمیشن فرد واحد نے اپنے مخالفین کے خلاف بنایا جبکہ اس کے حکام خود بدعنوانی میں ملوث ہیں۔

ضیاء اللہ آفریدی کاکہناتھا کہ عمران خان پوری دنیا کے سامنے گڈ گورننس اور مغربی جمہوریت کا راگ الاپتے ہیں لیکن ان کے اپنے احتساب کمیشن میں ڈائریکٹرز اور کمشنرز ایک دوسرے پر کرپشن کے الزامات لگا رہے ہیں۔

China’s prestigious National Museum to display Jimmy Engineer’s art work

KARACHI: To further consolidate the decades-old Pak-China friendship and to further deepen the bond between the two countries, a donation of a historical work of art by renowned Pakistan artist, Jimmy Engineer, has been made to the National Art Museum of China, Beijing.

This is the first time ever any Pakistan artist’s work has been featured in China’s premiere museum. The Chinese Consulate in Karachi approached Jimmy Engineer to donate one of his works to China’s museum and after going through a vetting process, the museum accepted a masterpiece for their permanent collection.

The painting that has been selected for the museum is titled, ‘International Architectural Composition’. It is a 3 feet by 6 oil on canvas painting completed last year.

In the third week of March, the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing will be organising an art exhibition, featuring Jimmy Engineer’s work.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Masood Khalid, along with Jimmy Engineer will officially present the said painting to the National Art Museum of China.

Jimmy Engineer is an artist and social worker who has devoted his life to helping the less fortunate, especially disabled children, through his art.

He has organised and participated in a number of initiatives to raise funds for such causes.

“As an artist and social worker, I feel I have a responsibility to promote a positive image of Pakistan not only within the country but all over the world,” said Jimmy Engineer.

He has won around 85 commendation certificates and awards from different organizations across the globe including National Endowment of the Arts Award, USA in 1988, Gold Medal by International Cosmopolitan Rotary Club of Pakistan in 1997, Human Rights Medal by the Human Rights Society of Pakistan in 2000, Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2005 and The Peace Ambassador’s Medal by China World Peace Foundation Beijing in 2016.

Paris Jackson – daughter of the late King of Pop Michael Jackson – has slammed Sky Arts’ Urban Myths for what can be called the latest coating of the film industry’s persistent whitewash.

In order to pay tribute to the legend, Sky Arts has a TV film under the wraps, for which it has cast a white actor – Joseph Fiennes – to bring the music icon to screen. Urban Myths, a compilation of assorted stories, includes a light comedy based on an unconfirmed road trip Jackson took post-9/11 with two of his friends: Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor.

Madame Tussauds unveils Amitabh Bachchan waxwork for Delhi opening

Madame Tussauds unveiled a waxwork of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on Thursday ahead of the museum's opening later this year in the Indian capital of New Delhi.

Bachchan, 74, is one of Indian cinema's most revered and influential actors and has been a mainstay on screens for five decades.

"We looked at the culture and of course, we have a lot of Indian visitors in our existing attractions as well. Their feedback is so positive ... that we said we need to be there," Marcel Kloos, Merlin Entertainments' director of new openings in emerging markets said.

Guests at the unveiling photographed themselves alongside Bachchan, as well as with a waxwork of American popstar Lady Gaga.

The Delhi branch above the city centre’s famed Regal Cinema is India's first Madame Tussauds, the museum's twenty-third globally and its ninth in Asia, where a growing middle class are prepared to pay to see wax figures of their favourite stars.

Wax statues of leading figures from Bollywood, sports and politics will feature in Delhi including one of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi - who is already in the London branch - as well as cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.

Shahrukh Khan had his question and answer session with fans on Twitter on Thursday. One of the social media users asked him his opinion of co-star Nawazuddin.

“Nawazuddin is a gem of an actor and too much fun to work with,” Shahrukh reportedly tweeted.

Shah Rukh Khan portrays a famous bootlegger in the film with Nawazuddin playing the role of an adamant policeman trying to hunt him down.

Raees also features Pakistani actress Mahira Khan in a leading role and is slated to be released on January 25.

Musharraf wants to return if provided foolproof security

KARACHI: The Anti-terrorism court (ATC) accepted a petition by Former President and Army Chief General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf asking for foolproof security if he comes back to Pakistan.

Musharraf had submitted a petition in the ATC saying he wanted to come home provided he gets foolproof security.

During the proceedings of the Judges Detention case on Friday, the ATC ruled that Musharraf will be declared a proclaimed offender if he does not appear in court on February 9.

The court ordered the Interior Ministry and IG Islamabad to ensure security for the former dictator.

In March 18, 2016 Musharraf left Pakistan for Dubai, complaining of health issues. While in Pakistan, he was exempted from appearing in the court after he submitted a medical report where his doctors advised him rest.

China expresses satisfaction over CPEC security

RAWALPINDI: Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, Mr Sun Weidong met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Bajwa at GHQ today (Friday), Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The visiting dignitary conveyed China’s satisfaction on security arrangements for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Mr Sun Weidong also acknowledged and lauded Pakistan’s efforts in fighting terrorism and extremism.

Other matters of mutual interest including regional security were also discussed during the meeting.

Sindh Governor Saeed-uz-Zaman laid to rest

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Justice (Retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman was laid to rest with state honours.

Funeral prayers for the governor held at the Governor House on Friday were attended by Acting Governor Agha Siraj Durrani, Corps Commander Karachi, DG Rangers Sindh and other important personalities.

The Governor passed away on Wednesday after prolonged illness. He was 79.

The Governor was admitted to a private hospital just days after taking oath. At the time it was reported that he was suffering from a chest infection and breathing problems, however, the Governor House spokesman had stressed that the ailment was not serious and that the Governor was out of danger.

Justice (retd) Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui was appointed as the 31st Governor after it was decided to replace Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan during a meeting between President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Geo News had reported earlier.

Zaman had served as the Chief Justice of Pakistan from July 1999 till December 2005. During the rule of former dictator General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, Zaman had refused to take oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).

In 2008 he also ran as a presidential candidate from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Syed suggests death penalty for politicians consuming alcohol

ISLAMABAD: Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Shahi Syed Friday suggested death penalty to politicians who drink alcohol, while Rehman Malik demanded a mandatory DNA test for them.

Senate Standing Committee on Interior met on Friday here, with Senator Rehman Malik in the chair. The meeting had discussions on local and foreign booze.

"Parliamentarians represent the people and if they are not punished for doing a wrong thing then why should poor people be?" he questioned, adding that politicians should be hanged to death for consuming liquor, while a lay man should face 6 months or a year in prison.

Asked about marijuana, he said, "People call it darwesh's intoxicant, but that too is wrong and should also be prohibited".

On the occasion, Rehman Malik said that all politicians should undergo a DNA test, adding, "It should be declared whether someone ever consumed alcohol, marijuana or opium, prior to contesting an election".

He was complimented by Syed that if this happened then majority of politicians would be disqualified. The ANP senator regretted that a Hindu is named for selling and consuming liquor, but it is actually done by a Muslim.

Javed Abbasi said whoever produces and sells moonshine it is illegal.

Consuming and selling liquor is prohibited in Pakistan; it's sale, however, is permitted to people of other religions through licensed liquor stores.

There have also been numerous casualties in the wake of locally-prepared toxic moonshine on a number of occasions.

Pakistan rejects allegations of safe havens in FATA

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday outrightly rejected allegations of terrorists' safe havens in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) saying that it does not allow its territory to be used for attacks against any other country.

"Pakistan's contribution to the international community's fight against terrorism and the sacrifices that we rendered have been acknowledged by the world including the US, at various levels of their leadership, EU and others," said a spokesperson for the Foreign Office, in response to media queries regarding allegations of safe havens in FATA.

"Pakistan has lost thousands of its citizens and suffered economic losses worth over $100 billion due to the menace of terrorism."

The successes of Zarb e Azb are manifested in the improved security and economic situation in Pakistan, particularly near Pakistan-Afghanistan border, he maintained.

The spokesperson stated that the results of our military action were there for everyone to see through peace and stability at our borders with Afghanistan, recounting, "The US parliamentarians and US commanders have visited the FATA and publicly acknowledged the successes of Pakistan's counterterrorism drive".

Afghanistan is infested with many terrorist organisations due to the instability there, which has created space for the terrorist elements such as Haqqani Network's leadership, TTA, TTP, Daesh, al-Qaeda, Jamaat ul Ahraar and others, he said.

"It is therefore not appropriate to blame others for the adversities due to deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan," he stated, maintaining the often repeated claims regarding safe havens were therefore more of a rhetoric than anything else.

"We wish to reemphasize that some foreign elements are exploiting the situation and using Afghan soil against Pakistan in particular and the region at large. The activities of RAW-NDS nexus remains a matter of deep concern to Pakistan," he underlined.

He said Pakistan remains committed to peace efforts in Afghanistan as it is not only in the interest of the region, but more importantly to Pakistan itself.

"It is unfortunate that our sincere efforts towards stability in Afghanistan are being maligned," the spokesman deplored, adding that Pakistan wants peace and stability in Afghanistan.

"We are engaged in border management which is imperative for effective counterterrorism."

Pakistan will continue its policy of cooperation with international community to defeat the menace of terrorism, read the statement.

"We will not indulge in blame game and expect others to do the same," he concluded.

Want to be a police officer when I grow up, says torture victim Tayyaba

ISLAMABAD: Child maid Tayyaba who was subjected to gruesome torture by her employers now vows to join the police force when she grows up.

“I will hit those who hit me,” said Tayyaba.

The Supreme Court earlier this week decided that Tayyaba will stay at Pakistan Sweet Homes, an orphanage, till her parents are identified.

The little girl could be seen in a clean pair of clothes, a red hairband holding her hair back-- a stark contrast from the rags she wore when she was first recovered. The wounds on her eye and lip had visibly healed, but a white bandage tightly wrapped her hand.

Her employer, additional session judge Islamabad Raja Khurram Ali Khan, will undergo another inquiry, sources informed Geo News on Friday.

The inquiry will be headed by a high court judge, the sources added.

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court (IHC) and other judges barred Raja Khurram Ali Khan from judicial duties, according to a notification on Thursday.

Khurram has been directed to serve as an OSD immediately in IHC, according to the notification.

Prior to this, Registrar IHC had also carried out an inquiry against the additional session judge.

Tayyaba’s case caught the media's attention after she was recovered from the residence of Additional Sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan, early this month.

According to a medical report, 22 torture marks were found on Tayyaba’s body, including marks from bruises and burns. A wound measuring one square centimetre was also found next to her right eye. The report also stated that the 10-year-old Tayyaba suffers from mental stress but her condition is improving gradually.

The minor girl, whose face and hands bore torture marks, had initially denied being hurt by her employers. She told the police that she got a wound to her eye after falling from the stairs, while her hand was also burnt accidentally.

However, the poor girl narrated her ordeal after being politely inquired by a female magistrate later. She stated before the magistrate that she was beaten and her hand was burnt on the stove for losing the broom.

Things took a turn, the matter was settled out of court last week and, according to the child’s father, the parents had forgiven the actions in the way of the Almighty.

The Chief Justice took suo moto notice of the case, however, the child and her father mysteriously disappeared then.

After the Supreme Court ordered that the child be produced in court, police sprung into action. Tayyaba was recovered from the suburbs of Islamabad on Sunday.

Organisers call off Karachi Eat Day 1 due to rain

KARACHI: Organisers have called off Day 1 festivities of Karachi Eat 2017 - one of the most-visited and talked-about events of the metropolis - due to heavy rain that lashed the city on Friday.

The three-day event is set to have around 95 stalls, with an expected 70,000-100,000 visitors.

The first day of the event went as planned despite an early rain on Friday, but the organisers called it off as rain again lashed the megapolis in the evening.

The plan for the next two days of the festival will soon be announced, say organisers.

The Met Office has forecasted that the spell is likely to continue until Sunday.

PM Nawaz directs to continue subsidy on fertilizers

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday directed for the continuation of subsidy on fertilisers.

He said that agriculture is back bone of the national economy and farmers play a pivotal role in strengthening the economy of the country.

The Prime Minister said farmers will be provided all the basic facilities for improvement in GDP of the country.

The federal government earlier had announced withdrawal of subsidy on fertiliser. However, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif had requested restoration of the subsidy.

Meanwhile, Director Agriculture Extension Rana Ahmad Munir ordered officials to ensure the sale of fertilisers in the market at control price and take action against dealers in case of violation.

He said this during visits to different fertilisers shops in rural areas including Qasba Lar, Qasba Maral and tahsil Shujabad where he checked fertilisers stock and relevant record, says a release issued by agriculture spokesman.

Deputy director agriculture extension Chaudhry Naseer Ahmad and other officials accompanied him on the occasion.

Traffic jams as rainy spell resumes in Karachi

KARACHI: The flow of traffic was badly affected after a spell of first winter rain in Karachi resumed on Friday evening.

Light and heavy rain again lashed several areas of Karachi, including II Chundrigar Road, Gulistan e Jauhar, Airport, Malir, Sharah e Faisal and Gulshan Iqbal.

The rain triggered snarl-ups in many areas.

Long queues of vehicles were seen at Shahrah e Faisal - the busiest thoroughfare of the city - as rain water accumulated on it.

Commuters faced immense difficulty in reaching their destinations.

Slippery roads also resulted in accidents, with two people reportedly killed in Nazimabad.

Another man was electrocuted in Korangi area, officials and rescue sources said.

Angry Trump blames US intelligence for 'phony' Russia dossier

WASHINGTON: President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday angrily denounced the publishing of claims he had been caught in a compromising position in Russia and attacked U.S. intelligence agencies over the leak of the information.

"I think it was disgraceful, disgraceful that the intelligence agencies allowed any information that turned out to be so false and fake out there," Trump told a news conference. He called the dossier that makes salacious claims about him "fake news" and "phony stuff."

"I think it's a disgrace ... That's something that Nazi Germany would have done," the Republican said days ahead of his inauguration.

Trump acknowledged that Russia likely hacked the Democratic National Committee and the emails of other top Democrats during the 2016 presidential election, but defended his goal of better ties with Moscow.

"If Putin likes Donald Trump, I consider that an asset, not a liability," Trump told about 250 reporters jammed into the lobby at his New York offices.

Trump, who said he hoped for a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin but could not guarantee it, said he had asked intelligence officials for a report on defenses against hacking in 90 days.

UNSUBSTANTIATED ALLEGATIONS

The dossier that emerged late on Tuesday was first reported by CNN. BuzzFeed published the full document.

Two U.S. officials said the allegations, which one called "unsubstantiated," were contained in a two-page memo appended to a report on Russian interference in the 2016 election that was presented last week to Trump and to President Barack Obama.

The president-elect has long said he hopes to improve ties with Moscow, but his plans have come under intense scrutiny after U.S. intelligence agencies concluded that Russia used cyber attacks and other tactics to try to tilt the election in his favor over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
